Tank Painting Inspection Services for Arrowhead Tank

Arrowhead Tank is a 6-million-gallon potable water tank that was constructed in 1999 to provide additional capacity to residents of Kansas City, Missouri.

The original coating for this steel standpipe reached the end of its lifespan in 2020, and KC Water, the city-run department that oversees all water needs for Kansas City, selected Tnemec Company Inc., a protective coating manufacturer, to provide the coating for the Arrowhead Tank.

KC Water chose to coat the tank of the steel structure with Tnemec Series 73 Endura-Shield, an aliphatic acrylic polyurethane, and had Viking Industrial Painting of Omaha, Nebraska, apply the coating.

Olsson was tasked by KC Water to conduct NACE inspections. Olsson’s Olathe Nondestructive Testing team provided oversight for this project and completed various NACE tests every day throughout the project. In addition, Olsson’s team tested the dry film thickness of the paint and made sure it met the specifications set by KC Water.

The project took four months and was completed in May 2020.
