Omaha, Nebraska (October 23, 2023) – Col. Mark Himes, P.E., recently retired Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Omaha District, begins his tenure as Olsson’s Federal Market Leader today.

Himes will lead strategies to integrate federal work across all of Olsson’s services. He will also work closely with various Olsson teams to ensure the firm is meeting the needs of its clients on all federal projects. Himes takes over from Steve Iverson, who anticipates retiring next year after leading Olsson’s Federal program since 2021.

Himes will join Olsson’s Federal group next week in San Antonio at the National Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Federal Small Business Conference (SBC). Nearly 5,000 professionals in the federal architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry attend SBC to connect with experts, business partners and federal contracting officers.  

Himes brings more than 25 years of engineering and leadership experience. He is well-versed in delivering large and wide-ranging national security and public infrastructure engineering and construction programs, specializing in engineering, construction management, environmental remediation, disaster response and strategic planning and resourcing.

In his role with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Himes was responsible for leading over 1,300 personnel to execute a growing annual program of over $3 billion that supports civil works, military construction, environmental restoration, navigation, hydropower and more. The Omaha District is the nation’s largest geographical U.S. Army Corps of Engineers district.

Himes is a decorated veteran. He earned three Bronze Stars, six Army Commendation Medals, the Iraqi Campaign Medal with two stars, an Afghanistan Campaign Medal, a Combat Action Badge, and multiple counterterrorism awards. In addition to Iraq and Afghanistan, his past assignments include the Pentagon and military bases in Pennsylvania, Hawaii, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Washington state and Germany.

Himes earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Virginia Tech. He has a master’s degree in building construction from Georgia Tech, a master’s degree in engineering management from Missouri University of Science & Technology and a master’s degree in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College.
