Engineering a luxury destination

Earlier this year, Caesars Entertainment unveiled its first nongaming hotel in the United States: Caesars Republic Scottsdale. The franchise selected Scottsdale because it is a top travel destination in the country and Phoenix metro residents are among the biggest customers of its Las Vegas resorts.

Olsson has been involved since 2018 and senior team leader Rodney Hanson was thrilled to see the hotel open.

"Working with Olsson on the Caesars Republic Scottsdale project has been an exceptional experience.”

“This hotel is really the first of its kind, so it was neat getting to work on such an exciting and signature project in Arizona and throughout the country,” said Rodney, who served as Olsson’s project manager.

The hotel offers luxury and top-tier amenities and sits in the bustling Scottsdale Fashion Square. The well-known area is a one-stop-shop for visitors, offering dining and shopping, but was missing a hotel – until now.

Caesars Republic Scottsdale guests can expect an array of amenities:

• 265 luxury rooms

• Two pools and three restaurants

• 20,000-square-feet of meeting space

• Views of Camelback Mountain

Olsson served developers HCW and Macerich to bring the project to life. We also collaborated with the City of Scottsdale and coordinated weekly calls between the owner, architect, and contractor.

"Working with Olsson on the Caesars Republic Scottsdale project has been an exceptional experience,” said Rick Huffman, CEO of HCW, the owner and developer of Caesars Republic Scottsdale. “Their team of civil engineers is not only dependable but also consistently delivers top-quality results. Their expertise and dedication to the project have been invaluable and we're proud to have partnered with such a reliable and professional team.”

“This hotel is really the first of its kind."

What people may not know is the behind-the-scenes work that made the hotel possible. Rodney said master planning was crucial to prepare the area for future development.

“For years, Olsson has helped with the master planning of the area,” Rodney said. “Having that history and background was helpful and important. Thoughtful planning prior, really helped the hotel come to fruition.”

We also provided civil designs, traffic engineering, survey, utility design, and construction materials testing.

“There was a lot of coordination that we had to do within Olsson to help get the project across the finish line,” Rodney said. “Our team did a great job being flexible and solution-oriented to best serve our clients during a multi-year, large-scale project.”

The years-in-the-making project gained some notable hardware this summer: a Golden Nugget Award of Merit. The accolade is presented to top innovators in design, planning, and development.
