Replacing and improving bridges on I-29

We provided complete designs for the replacement and improvements of several bridges just north of St. Joseph, Missouri. We designed the replacement of a pair of bridges on Interstate 29 over Hopkins Creek and roadway improvements for a pair of bridge overlays over Route T.

The project replaced the 380-foot and 353-foot-long steel bridges, widened the approach roadways, improved storm drainage, upgraded the guardrail and safety barrier curbs to current MASH criteria, and included the design of temporary median crossovers.

The project replaced the 380-foot and 353-foot-long steel bridges.

We utilized MSE walls along the shoulders to support the widening. This technique avoided substantial tree clearing, costly reconstruction of the 40-foot tall embankments and impacts to right-of-way. We permitted and set forth low water crossing performance specifications and provided assistance to Missouri Department of Transportation staff members with the embankment and retaining wall global stability analyses.

We submitted the Final PS&E at the end of July 2019, which was just over four months from the Notice-to-Proceed on these accelerated design projects.
