Kayla Meyer joined Olsson in December 2019 as an associate landscape architect with Olsson Studio and was recently named to Leadership Omaha Class 43. We recently spoke with Kayla to learn more about why she became involved with Leadership Omaha and why creating landscapes is appealing to her.
Why did you want to become involved with Leadership Omaha and why is that important to you?
A: The most inspiring and forward-thinking people I have met throughout my career in Omaha have been involved in Leadership Omaha and have spoken very highly of the experience. I wanted to apply for years and the timing finally seemed right, and I had the support of Olsson to pursue it! It’s important to me because I want to constantly learn and grow. I am always looking for opportunities outside of work to grow and connect with the Omaha community.
What gets you excited about going to work each day?
A: My favorite part of work is when we finally get to present the creative ideas and documents to our clients and hear their feedback. It’s exciting and rewarding, and gets the project one step closer to becoming a reality.
What made you want to work at Olsson?
A: I joined the firm because I was impressed with the female leadership and the authentic enjoyment of working here that was expressed by people who worked at Olsson. I have not been disappointed!
When you’re not working, do you critique spaces you see or visit?
A: All the time! But especially when I am traveling. I am investigating new spaces, furniture, design details, you name it!

What do you like to do for fun?
A: I love home gardening, cooking, bike riding and, of course, yoga! All these activities help with stress management for work.
Tell me one thing about yourself that not many people know.
A: I am a national baton twirling champion and have even competed in world competitions.
