Olsson has joined a multiyear effort to assist AdventHealth as it expands locations and medical services in the fastest-growing county in Kansas.
Demographers have predicted that the population of Johnson County, Kansas, currently about 590,000, will nearly double over the next half century. AdventHealth, formerly Shawnee Mission Health, has long been a leading regional provider and has undertaken a two-phase project to develop major health care facilities in Overland Park.
We joined our client’s team in 2014 for the first phase of the AdventHealth South Overland Park project near 165th Street and Antioch Road in Overland Park.
The $40 million initial phase, completed in 2017, developed two buildings: a 24/7 emergency department, and a three-story medical office that features a women’s imaging center, physical therapy, cardiology, neurosurgery, and other specialty services.
More recently, AdventHealth announced it will break ground on the second phase: a 193,000-square-foot, 85-bed hospital. The $150 million facility, designed by architectural firm HKS, will employ 200 people to provide critical medical services in a county predicted to be home to more than one million Kansans within several decades.
“As the area grows, we’re committed to growing with it,” Karsten Randolph, chief financial officer for the Mid-America region of AdventHealth, said in a press release announcing the hospital project.
During the first phase, we brought to the table our extensive experience in health care site planning. Provided services included surveying, civil engineering, special inspections and utility design. Olsson Studio provided landscape architecture and planning design services for the project.
We’ll be doing more of the same to support the second phase.
